Green Roof
St. Joseph's plans to incorporate a green roof over the majority of its expansion project. This will absorb the storm water and release it back into the atmosphere through evaporation and plant transpiration.
In addition, the hospital will drain the excess runoff, which reduces the urban heat island effect. Green roofing also reduces the size of the HVAC system a building needs to have, as well as the amount of building insulation.
Expected to cost $1.67 million, the storm water drainage will divert 550,500 gallons of water each year from the public water facilities.
