Infection Control
An inevitability of hospital overcrowding is increased risk of the spread of disease and infection. Currently, St. Joseph's not only lacks adequate space, but is organized in such a way that patients are exposed to moves from one department to the next - e.g. from room to surgery to recovery - that are greater in distance and frequency than necessary.
Additionally, overcrowded waiting rooms - often with 20-30 people - increases the risk of spreading sickness, as those waiting for care are exposed to others.
